Phillip Phillips

Jimmy Perry, Co-Editor in Chief

Although they say to never trust someone who has a first name for a last name you can rely on Phillip Phillips to produce good music. His last album Behind the Light, was definitely one of my favorite albums of 2014. Phillips is a Georgia native and it shows in his music; he has a country, folk like twang in his music along with a southing southern voice. Phillips has been an up and coming musician for a few years now after winning season 11 of American Idol and his fan base has been growing ever since.

He is most known for his single Home that came out back in 2011 but there’s so much more to him than that one song. Phillips has come out with three albums since 2012 including an album made up of all of his American Idol performances. As much as I liked Behind the Light, my favorite album of his would have to be his second, The World from the Side of the Moon. There’s something about this album that really appeals to me, it could be the large variety of instruments in his band (my favorite being the cello) or just the fast upbeat tempo of almost all the songs on that album.

Another perk of Phillips would have to be how pure all of his songs are, his live performances are almost identical to his studio versions, and the only difference would have to be the volume of his guitar and the brass band in the back ground. I was lucky enough to see him live this summer when he was on tour with another great band O.A.R. although he was an opener for O.A.R. I still think he was the better part of the show. He also happens to be one of the most talented guitarists in his genre. Phillips has the ability to flow up and down the neck of the guitar with ease playing some of the cleanest chords you’ll ever hear.

If you enjoy any music along the lines of country, folk, or even pop, and you’re looking for some new music id suggest you check out Phillip Phillips. Much of his music is on iTunes and if you have android a lot of his music can be found for free.  I challenge you to find a song you genuinely don’t like, that’s how confident I am that you will like his music.
