After taking a hiatus last Dec, One Direction has finally gone in different directions. Starting the band in 2010 on The X-Factor UK, these five boys (Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik) made the journey together from the bottom of the stairs to the top of the charts in no time.

Four and a half years and four albums later, Malik dropped out of the band due to stress in his personal life that was affecting his career life. In the following months the rest of the boys created another album and released it at the end of the year while simultaneously announcing their hiatus.

Meanwhile, Malik went to a new label and started a solo career. His album, Mind of Mine, came out exactly a year after his departure from the band. Most recent, is the release of his duet with Taylor Swift, Fifty Shades Darker.

Since their break, each band member has begun their own lives. Finally, able to step back and take a much needed break from five years of nonstop working- no matter how much they loved it. Styles got a haircut (that’s upsetting) and is starring in the movie Dunkirk, which will be in theaters July 21, 2017. This is his first movie that does not revolve around the band.

Horan spent a lot of time golfing. He attended golf tours, meet golf pros, and even worked on improving his own skill (you can see this all over his Instagram). Recently he released a single called This Town. He has been traveling around playing this song for different people and shows. Hopefully a new album will follow.

Payne kick back and relaxed for a while, but rumor is that he’s also pursuing a solo career. On his Instagram he posted a teaser clip of a song. Fans seem to think his teaser sounds too much like Malik’s work. In other news, Payne and his girlfriend, Cheryl Cole, are expecting a child. So now two members of the broken-up band have entered fatherhood.

The other father in the band happens to be Tomlinson. Briana Jungwirth, stylist and e-girlfriend of Tomlinson, gave birth to their son Freddie on Jan 21, 2016. Since then, there have been custody battles between the two for joint custody and what that entitles. On top of all of the baby drama, Tomlinson’s mother- Johannah Deakin- passed away early in the morning on Dec 7 from Leukemia. Tomlinson performed on The X-Factor on Dec 10 in honor of his mother. After his performance, Simon Cowell- creator of One Direction- gave his condolences. Payne and Malik also gave condolences via twitter.

In a matter of a year and a half, these five boys have gone on each of their own paths, yet still stayed connected. Although One Direction has reached its end, their lives and careers haven’t. As a fan, I’m looking forward to what they will bring to the table in the future. #directionersforever
