As 2014 and 2015 state champions, the Washington Township Boys’ soccer program had high expectations entering 2016 season. The varsity team opened up their season September 8 at home against conference opponent Lenape. To start the game, Ethan Mueller’17 took the lead for Washington Township by scoring three goals in the first half. To add to those goals, Clayton Crosse’18 and John Dalesandro’17 each scored one goal to add to the scoreboard. Both also had one assist throughout the game. In total, the team had seventeen shots on net, with five goals. The boys finished the game with a final score of 5-1 with each goalkeeper, Frank Borgesi’17 and Nick Levie’17, having two saves in net against five shots.

The next game, September 10, brought a 3-0 win against Seneca: Dalesandro, Mueller, and Sean Zemlak’19 each had one goal during the game, while Dalesandro, Crosse, and Ed Rainey’18 each had one assist. The team had a total of eight shots on goal to Seneca’s four shots, all of which were saved by Levie’17 in goal.

On September 12, the boys’ soccer team faced their first loss of the season. With a final score of 0-1, the boys lost to conference competitor Shawnee. They had six shots on goal but were not able to meet the back of the net. In goal, Levie’17 was able to pull off three saves of Shawnee’s four shots on goal.

Though, early in the season, the team has a record of 2-1. Their next game will be September 14, 2016 at Eastern High School
