Running through the winter

During the winter sport seasons, certain teams will fill into the hallway to get ready for their seasons. One of those teams in particular, is the boys’ winter track team.

The boys on the team prepare for the season by training throughout the fall, spring, and summer seasons. They also have the option, if they participate in this event during a meet, to use a pre-season throwing and lifting program.

The boys and coaches put in a lot of commitment into the program in season as they do out of season. The team trains throughout the whole winter season, and the boys are even responsible for their own training during winter break. They travel to all of their meets by bus and the runners or throwers participate in various events in an indoor track stadium. But some of the times all the commitment they put into their training does not get seen through all the results. Usually, the top six fastest times get placed regardless of the event that the time was placed in. Someone could be running a 400 meter dash slower than someone running hurdles and get placed lower than that person.

Some of the events that the runners participate in are; 55-meter dash or hurdles, 200 or 400-meter dash, and the 800, 1600, or 3200 meter run. Though some of the events might be the same for an outdoor spring season, there are actually some differences to indoor and outdoor meets. For instance, the materials the indoor and outdoor tracks are made of are different. Also, the width of the lanes is different of the tracks.

The boy’s face many competitors throughout their season. Some of those other teams include: Southern, Egg Harbor, Kingsway, Shawnee, and Eastern. Hopefully, with all the time and hard work the boys put into their training and running throughout the halls, the team will be able to come together and prosper in their meets.
