May the odds be ever in your favor

Are you looking for something to do with your friends after school? If the answer was yes then you should head on over to a movie theater near you and see the new movie Mockingjay Part 2. If your answer was no, you should still head over to a movie theater and see Mockingjay Part 2.

The movie was released on Nov. 20 and is the final installation to The Hunger Games movie series. At first The Hunger Games was a phenomenal trilogy, if you haven’t read them yet you should definitely go purchase the books, in which we follow Katniss Everdeen through countless brushes with death as she starts out as a competitor in the games and winds up leading a national revolution against an uncaring and oppressive government.

This movie is a great movie if you liked the first, second, and/or third, seeing how the last book was split into two movies.

Actors and actresses have to be able to portray what the novelist conveyed about the characters beyond mere dialogue and I feel that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson have done an excellent job.

Lawrence conveys the internal battle that Katniss constantly has with herself while Hutcherson depicts the depth of love and confusion that Peeta has towards her, himself, and the revolution.

The plot itself is not all that great, or what I had measured it up to be. Even in the book it was kind of strange with plot developments occurring out of the blue. In the movie, however, it was portrayed excellently.

When in the Capital and trying to get to President Snow, Katniss and her squad are maneuvering through traps that are set up everywhere. Each trap is called a pod and each pod contains a deadly obstacle from past Hunger Games.

The way the book described how they worked was simple but the obstacles within are what I thought would be difficult to show. One pod shut down a city block and flooded the area with black goo and even had wires set up to capture them. That must’ve been difficult to film, especially if they might have had to reshoot the scene.

The character developments through these obstacles will pull your heartstrings. Seeing a torn Peeta, a broken Katniss, and an overshadowed Gale going through such horror at about 19 years old is gut wrenching.

I don’t want to spoil anything else so I won’t, but seeing the progressions of each tribute, victor, and district member is what affected me most.

Mockingjay Part 2 is a great movie and you should go see it!
