Conjuring Review

Horror movies have been around for ages always trying to give that big scare. Two of the greatest recent horror movies have been The Conjuring and Annabelle.

The Conjuring is about a family that moves into a new home and realizes there’s an evil spirit. The way that they come to the realization and come in contact is they play “the clap game”, where someone blind folds the other, then spins them around 3 times and they run and hide while the blind folded person counts to ten. The person with the blind fold cannot take off the blind fold until they find the others or they used up three claps. If you take the blind fold off at any moment before finding anyone or not using the claps, you lose. The evil spirit, Anabelle, enters the game and begins to mess with the family. The family eventually gets a medium to release the evil from the home; but “before The Conjuring there was Anabelle.” Anabelle is the pre-quell of the movie The Conjuring.

Anabelle is a doll that was possessed by an evil spirit. The story goes, a lovely couple moves into a home with a new born baby. The wife is obsessed with dolls and her husband buys her a rare porcelain doll. They meet their neighbors and these neighbors have a daughter who does rituals and they do not approve their daughter’s life style. One night the ritual takes place at the neighbors’ house. The daughter Anabelle and her husband end up killing her parents. The young couple hears these noises and goes and checks on their neighbors. So then Anabelle and her husband try going after the neighbors to kill them. Anabelle ends up dying and she has the wife’s porcelain doll in her arms as she dies. A drop of blood onto the doll and Anabelle’s spirit becomes entrapped inside the doll. This turns into horrific events for the couple.

As a viewer I really like The Conjuring better. I feel as if The Conjuring is extra scary and very well written and the actors are amazing. Anabelle is a great suspense and at first it’s a bit confusing because it’s the point of view on the doll and with second movie it’s kind of based through the house being haunted rather than just the doll itself. It’s a big concept and this is based off of true events. It’s something that’s definitely watchable and it’s not too scary. The endings are both really surprising and great. The actors are very talented in The Conjuring especially all the little girls. The directors have a strong script and for this to be based off true events it’s really impressive work. Anabelle has really good actors as well I feel like conveyed better insight than just words and by showing it. I feel like if you are a horror fan and you love The Conjuring you’ll love Anabelle.
