What is the charity you chose to represent?

Children’s Alopecia Project (CAP). I have alopecia aerate and CAP has been there to help me through my hair loss journey. It is an organization geared towards self-love and acceptance with alopecia since there is no real cure. They focus on how bald can be beautiful and that hair doesn’t determine who you are. CAP is like my second family, and I would love to give back to an organization that has helped me so much.

Why do you best represent Washington Township?

I dedicate myself to helping others. I have run for our cross country team for four years, and during two of those four years, I was injured. I wasn’t able to run and compete in races, so instead, I went to every race to cheer on my team. I always wanted to be there to support them and help them reach their own personal goals. They are not just my team, but my friends too and I wanted to help out any way I could. I had to do the same for spring track last year while I was on recovery. I am running again, but I love to give the underclassmen of the cross country team advice and help them grow as runners and people.

What is your favorite pick-up line?

“It looks like your shoelaces are untied. Let me tie them for you, I don’t want you falling for anyone else!” 😉

If you could pick anyone besides yourself to win, who would it be?

Abby Aguilar. I think she’s a great person and an amazing friend.

Favorite food:

Baked mac and cheese.

Favorite movie:

The Little Prince

Favorite music artist:

The band Half-Alive.

What TV show/movie character are you most like?

Max from Stranger Things. She’s a strong, independent, indecisive girl. My dad always says that Max reminds him of me. Also, she and I are both red heads so that’s a plus!

What is your go-to Wawa order?

A green tea Macha milkshake.

If you could give yourself one superpower, what would it be?

Telekinesis would make it easier to do multiple things at once. When I feed my dogs our puppy needs to be separated from our older girls so I can put his bowl down at the same time as my older dogs’ bowls so neither of them have to wait for their food any longer!

What has been your most embarrassing moment at WTHS?

When I dropped the baton during a 4×4 relay race in my sophomore year. It was my second relay race and I had little to no practice with passing the baton and I had dropped it on the pass off and just stood there completely stunned until my coach told me to “PICK UP THE BATON, MAGGIE!!!”.

What has been one of the most memorable aspects of your high school experience?

When I was on the TV show Class-H Room for our high school. It was such an amazing honor to represent our school and getting to be on a TV set was an amazing experience (and beating Boz).

If you could change one thing about the world you live in, what would it be?

The way people view other people with physical differences. I want to change the stares at people who don’t “fit the normal”, because there is no normal.

What advice would you give to underclassmen about high school? About life?

Put yourself out there. High school is huge and you will meet so many people and get to do so many things. You might not realize what you’re good at until you try it, you could surprise yourself!

What are your plans and goals for after high school?

I plan to attend either Savannah College of Art and Design, Otis University, or California Institute of Art and major in concept art, story boarding, or animation. I want to work in the animation industry, hopefully work on making animated shows and movies.

What teacher or faculty member has made the biggest impact on your high school career?

Frau Graham. She has taught me so much about the German language, helping me grow in my language skills and showing me German’s amazing culture. Frau Graham also gave me the best piece of advice I’ve ever received: “You can excel, as long as you have confidence.” I use this advice with German, art, driving, school, work and anything else I want to excel in.

Who in your life has had the biggest influence on you?

My elementary school art teacher, Amanda Brewer. When I was younger, I absolutely loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian for big animals. Ms. Brewer was a new teacher and used her passion for sharks and incorporated it into art and I really looked up to her. She helped me realize that I could take art seriously and connect it with my love of animals. Ms. Brewer was the teacher who jump started my journey with art, helping me find my love of creating and eventually my decision to pursue art for a career.

What is one thing you cannot live without?

My earbuds. I love listening to music and sometimes it helps me get through the day and focus.

What is something about you that most people do not know?

I know how to make card houses and enjoy doing it. The highest card house I’ve built had 4 layers!

Describe yourself in three words.

Kind, creative, loyal.

If you had to give a 20-minute presentation on a topic of your choosing, what would it be?

The Star Wars series Clone Wars. Star Wars is my favorite franchise and Clone Wars is hands down my favorite thing that has come out of the franchise. It gave us different sides of the prequel characters that we didn’t get to see in the prequel movies and all the characters they add are amazing! Ashoka Tano is my favorite Star Wars character, and she wouldn’t exist if Clone Wars didn’t exist. I could keep going on until this becomes my 20 minute presentation, but long story short, I really like Star Wars.

What has been the best part about being on the Homecoming Court?

I have been in school with these eleven girls for four years and there are a handful that I would never have had the opportunity to be friends with if I never got onto homecoming court. I’m excited for what’s to come and the adventure this will be. Here’s to tomorrow.
