In an announcement released on October 13th by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) in accordance with Governor Phil Murphy’s issuing of Executive Order 187 on October 12, sports are now allowed to resume for the winter.

The statement provides an update on the ability to conduct indoor contact practices and indoor competition.

The executive order allows for a limited practice with 25% of the facility’s capacity to be present, with no more than 25 persons and no less than 10 persons. If teams require more than 25 players to be present, they are allowed to proceed with more than 25 individuals but without any unnecessary individuals (like fans). In this case, the number of players and people present can still not exceed 25% of the room’s capacity, or 150 people in total.

The winter sports season will begin with practices on Thursday, December 3rd, with competition beginning on Monday, December 21st. The season will run through February 3rd, with post-season playoff competition taking place from February 5 through February 17.

The NJSIAA statement also sets guidelines on game limitations. “Competition in all sports will be limited to two events per week; however, two three-game weeks will be permitted. The total maximum events for all sports will be 15 events during the regular season. This total represents all games played.”
