Gymnasts flip to success

Washington Township High School is known for its talented and hardworking athletic programs. Student athletes work six days a week and work until the final buzzer of the game. The girls’ gymnastics program is no exception to this leagcy.

As of October 20, the girls’ gymnastics program was 8-0 with senior leaders Casey Hubbard and Abby Deal leading the way and making the real difference for the program. The two girls are the 2016 team captains and participate and place in various events at meets.

The team has been triumphant over other teams such as Seneca, Shawnee, Lenape, and Cherokee. The programs last two regular season meets happened October 18 and October 20 which geared the team up for the NJSIAA Tournament on November 5.

The girls came out with 101.825 in the tournament, placing them third and bringing an end to the team’s undefeated season. Scoring higher were the teams from Brick Memorial, 107.825, and Jackson Liberty, 104.425.

The girls work hard throughout the season to become successful in each of their meets. They practice six days a week, five of which are for hours after school. In their meets, the girls participate in events such as, the uneven bars, vault, balance beam, and floor exercise. Hubbard and Deal lead the teams in these events with Allyce Andricola’18 contributing to the team’s success in meets as well.

Coming out of a successful season in 2015, the girls undoubtedly successful 2016 leaves high hopes for the girls in the coming seasons. And with the legacy that sports programs have at WTHS holding the girls up, with hard work, the gymnastics program can have a really successful future.
