Earlier this month, Washington Township High School hosted the 25th annual Township Toy Drive and it was a smashing success.
The Township Toy Drive is an event held by the junior and senior class councils. For a couple of weeks the students collect toy, toiletry, and monetary donations for the Ronald Mcdonald House Charities in Gloucester and Camden county.
The event begins in the middle of November and is wrapped up with the school tradition, “24 at the Core”. Both the junior and senior class councils come together to spend a full twenty- four hours in the Core, or main entrance of the high school, to sort any last minute donations before wrapping them up and sending them off to the receiving families.
Senior class council member Sydney Borkowski participated in her second township toys event this year and mentioned how much the event means to her.
“The best part has to be seeing all the families coming in and donating gifts and supplies. Sometimes it’s parents with their little kids and it’s so adorable!”, said Borkowski.
“The best part was hanging out with everyone and having fun, all while also doing something really good for the community,” said Julia Blanchard, junior class council member.
While sleeping overnight at school might not have been the most comfortable, Blanchard says, “It’s worth it, if it means helping families have a nice holiday celebration.”
Overall, this year’s Toy Drive was a hit and the turn-out was amazing! Township Toy Drive will be back this time next year, so mark your calendars! Happy holidays, Township!
