Washington Township High School’s Fall play, She Kills Monsters, will inspire viewers with its heartfelt message and will showcase the many new and returning talents at WTHS.
She Kills Monsters tells the story of a high school senior who goes on a journey to find out who her sister really was, while simultaneously fighting the monsters within herself. The play, co-directed by Mrs. Molotsky and Mr. Stephan, will have its opening night on November 16th at 7:30 PM.
The meaningful, well-crafted play that will be brought to the audience on opening night is a culmination of weeks of hard work by both staff and students. Mrs. Molotsky and Mr. Stephan are experimenting and challenging themselves with new set designs, costuming, action scenes, and more. These new challenges have increased the difficulty of the production of the play, but the results will be worth all the hard work.
“There’s so much that goes into what you see on the stage, but it has taken 10 weeks of practice to do that,” said Molotsky.
Molotsky also explained the individual components that go into a production like this, such as the meetings, stage blocking, characters, costuming, choreography, lighting and much more. Both Molotsky and Stephan revealed the use of an action choreographer who will be helping with the action scenes. The play will contain exciting and new components like fight scenes, large dragon puppets, and weapons. Everyone involved in this show plays a very important role because of the new and slightly challenging aspects the directors and cast are tackling.
Despite all of the challenging aspects of being involved in a play and putting one together, it is something extremely fun and exciting to be a part of. Not only does the cast get to experience something new, but they also get to spend time with friends doing something they are passionate about.
“Being with my friends and creating this show is such a wonderful experience,” said Bella Kuszmaul.
Like any other entertainment group or sports team, there is a sense of community in getting together and creating something wonderful for others to see. Not only can it be exciting, but it can also be a relaxing escape.
“Theater allows us to take a temporary escape from the realities of our world and sometimes that’s what we need…theater is cathartic,” said Mr. Stephan.
Theater serves a greater purpose than just entertaining its audience. Mrs. Molotsky, Mr. Stephan, Bella Kuszmaul, and all the other cast and crew members are involved in this play with the intention of entertaining their audience and providing them with an escape from their day-to-day reality. The audience members are able to enjoy themselves and admire the talent of the cast and crew of WTHS drama.
The Fall 2023 play She Kills Monsters will excite its audience with new and challenging components, while delivering a deep and heartfelt message about self- discovery. These elements, combined with a dedicated and talented cast and crew, will result in an enticing, positive, and inspiring play.
The second and third showings will be on November 17th at 7:30 PM and November 18th at 2:00 PM. Anyone wishing to attend can buy tickets at the door or at www.wthsnj.booktix.net
