Senior Directed

After three months of work, directors Tom LaSalle ‘15 and Jon Lucich ‘15 brought the Senior Directed Cabaret to the 11/12 auditorium stage on Jan. 8 and 9.

SDC‘s cast had students from ninth through twelfth performing. From an audience standpoint, the cast seemed to get along great. According to the SDC’s program, Lucich stated “But this cast, wow I could talk about this cast for days, they have been the most cooperative and easiest cast to work with (even though they are the only cast that I had, but it’s the thought that counts).”

According to the WTHS’s school website, SDC brought in $6,415. The show’s income has broken the previous record. All of the proceeds went to Project Graduation, which is an all-night drug and alcohol-free celebration. Project Graduation begins directly after the commencement ceremonies.

The show consisted of various comedy skits all integrated into one spectacular show. Many of the shows came from Saturday Night Live (SNL) such as the Halloween Party, Single Ladies, and the Girlfriends Talk Show, etc.

Prior to the show’s opening act the audience was already eager to see what the seniors had created.

Sammy Maltese ’18 said, “I’m expecting it to be a creative expression of our seniors.”

SDC opened by introducing LaSalle and Lucich first, and then proceeded to bring out the entire cast. From the get go the cast won over the audience had already stolen our laughs and brought smiles to our faces.

Although the seniors included many of SNL’s skits into their show, they also included one Youtube’s biggest stars, Jenna Marbles. Jenna Marbles was played by senior, Kaitlee Francisco. The act was called “What A Girl’s Eyebrows Mean”. The skit consisted of an overall cast of twenty-three people. The large group had no trouble creating large eruptions of laughter from their audience.

The cast also recreated Pitch Perfect’s Bella’s Finals. The actresses in the performance hit every note just as well, if not better, than the actual movie scene. One of the actresses in the performance, Katie Stella ’17 said that this was one of the hardest acts to perform, “We started rehearsing at the very beginning of December, and it took until tech week to put it all together. But it was definitely worth it in the end.” Tech week is the beginning of the week of the performances. During this time they set the lights, music, etc. up.

SDC was already a massive hit by intermission. Mrs. Judy Nelson said that the show surpassed her expectations.

Mrs. Eckert-Carpenter also had high hopes for the upcoming acts. “I expect to see continued comedy, many laughs, and a memorable night,” said Eckert- Carpenter.

The first part of the show definitely raised the bar for part two. Lucich and LaSalle’s success could be seen in the fact that many people went to see the show not only once, but twice!

Ben Curwin ’17 shared after Friday’s performance, “I saw the show yesterday, and it’s definitely just as good.”

SDC most definitely lived up to its promise of being a great performance. All of the hard work that was put into the production definitely paid off. According to Michael Raggio ’16 said “You can tell they put a lot of work into it, and they had a lot of fun. It was a great show.”

Many students believe that WTHS should definitely have fun nights like this more often. The laughs that were given to the audience were incredible. For only five dollars students received about two hours of pure entertainment and a safe place to hang out with their friends.

Crystal West ’18 said “Yes, I think it’s a nice change from the normal school plays and it’s something fun to do with your friends.”
