Tomorrows Teachers

With all of the electives WTHS has to offer, there was one that was missing that has been a huge success in the first month of school.

For years, Township has had students that were interested in becoming educators, but for the first year, there is finally a class for young educators to explore the education field before committing to it for college.

Tomorrow’s Teachers is an 8th period class of 16 seniors taught by Ms. Brittany Mason.  The class focuses on the truths and realities of the education field, child development, teaching styles, and a month long field experience in April. The field experience is done at any elementary school or middle school in the district with the teacher of choice. The students will practice working with the children and teaching them, just like a real life college teaching field experience.

Since the first day of school the class has been in action creating bulletin boards around the school and putting together backpacks for Operation Backpack and delivering them to schools in the district. Next they did presentations on their education experience and heartwarming stories that influenced them to become teachers. In the first month of the class, it’s clear that this class will have many hands on activities and discussions on their future careers, which will lead up to their biggest moment, their hands on teaching experience in April.

The class is very small, so the class has gotten very close with each other. “It’s amazing how quickly a group of 16 kids can click with a common interest and future passion.” Said Kaitlee Francisco’15, “We feed off of each other and I can easily say we are all best friends already!”

It seems that this class is going to be a huge success and have an impact on our school. These future teachers are eager to make an impact in our schools and make the world a better place through education.
