First Look at the WTHS Boys Soccer Team
The Fall 2020 sports season is difficult, uncertain, and confusing for all teams, but the Washington Township varsity boys soccer team is prepared to take it on. With multiple postponements to all fall sports during the first three weeks of the season already, the soccer program has had to take everything one day at a time and be prepared for sudden changes in plans for the season.
“We have to take it one day at a time and enjoy every time we are able to practice or play” said boys varsity coach Shane Snyder.
There are many restrictions that the team must adhere to and guidelines that the team must follow to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, both on gameday and at practice.
One of the biggest changes for senior James Cima is the lack of locker room usage for the team. “The biggest change is not being in the locker room because there are a lot of motivators and it brings us together as a team,” Cima explained.
There are other changes that have also taken effect, including social distancing and masks on the sideline, a shortened and restricted season to help prevent inter-district infection, and isolation between the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams.
Despite all the changes, the WTHS boys soccer players are excited to finally be able to play again. “[I’m excited for] just getting back on the field and seeing everyone with a smile on their face,” said senior Kyle Stone.
The team kicked off the season with a 2-1 loss away at Cherry Hill East.
