Fenty Celebrates Diversity

A lot of people may know Rihanna for her catchy songs like Umbrella or one of her more recent songs like Wild thoughts with DJ Khaled. What some people might not know is that Rihanna is only 29 years old. The singer, songwriter, actress, and now has just released her own makeup line. You can already guess that the makeup world and Rihanna fans were freaking out when they heard the Rihanna is backing a product to achieve perfect skin just like her.

The Fenty line has up to 40 different shades and has been receiving various reviews raving about the wide variety of tones. Rihanna posted on her makeup lines website,” Fenty beauty was created for everyone: for women of all shades, personalities, attitudes, cultures, and races. I wanted everyone to feel included.”

The Wednesday after the line was released eight of the 10 deep foundations were sold out on the Sephora website. People have been saying on Twitter that Rihanna’s Fenty line is the start of the makeup community becoming inclusive of everyone. The makeup community has often been criticized for being painfully white in representation and casting. Rihanna’s line is celebrating the diversity of different skin types and is making sure that all women feel included.

After hearing all the rage about the new Fenty, I decided that I had to see for myself, so I went to Sephora. It usually takes me forever to try and find the right color when I get a new foundation because I never want to look orange or pale. The foundations were so organized I walked right up and swatched the different colors on my hand and found a match right away.

I tried it out the next day at school. I have oily skin, so by the end of the day usually I’m a little shiny in my T- Zone (The central part of a person’s face, including the forehead, nose, and chin, especially as having oilier skin than the rest of the face). When I put it on that morning it felt very thin but had very good coverage which is usually hard to find. It wasn’t “cakey” at all.  Throughout the day I didn’t feel my skin get oily at all and I even checked in the bathroom mirror 5th period, it was still holding up very well. At the end of the day I hurried to leave because I was excited to check my results when I got home. I got home and I ran straight to the mirror to check my skin and surprisingly there was barley any shine at all, I was still almost completely matte and  was very impressed.

Overall, I completely support the message that Rihanna is trying to send out that everyone is beautiful and different in their own way, society should accommodate to that. Rihanna is taking steps to make our world more inclusive to everyone. As well as her message, I loved the actual product and will probably purchase more from her foundation collect and I would recommend the Fenty line to anyone interested. You can purchase items from the Fenty collection at all Sephora stores and the products range from the price of $20 to about $40 dollars.
