Shining lights illuminating the field, the cheering of the fans, and the marching band filling the air with rhythm means it’s time for Friday night football at WTHS. The football games wouldn’t be the same without the football players (obviously), but people often forget about the other two major influences that make a football game at WTHS feel like a genuine Friday night football game: The Cheerleaders and the Marching Band.
Some people don’t realize or think about it quite often, but the cheerleaders and band have a big influence on the game. The cheerleaders and Band get the crowd and the football players “hyped up”.
Therefore, it’s important for the cheerleaders and band players to always be on the same page. This has been true, but even more so this year. The band and cheerleaders have really come together. The band has consistently kept the cheerleaders informed and included during the games. For example, as soon as the band made their list of new songs for the games, they gave it to the cheerleaders so they could prepare and make new dances and stunts to match the music.
Also, at the games the band always makes sure that the cheerleaders know what they’re playing next. This really helps the cheerleaders get ready for their next dance or stunt so they don’t have to catch on at the last second.
The cheerleaders really enjoy the wide variety of new music to preform to. Also, the audience is familiar with most of the songs and are more involved now. The new music gives us cheerleaders more variety rather than in the past, when we did more traditional that we have been doing for years. The new music gives the games a fun new twist, and spices things up to make it more modern.
Even though there is new music, the band has done a good job of keeping some of our traditional songs that we have done throughout the years.
Overall, we really appreciate the communication with the band and the fact that they keep us included. The cheerleaders love being involved with the band, even at times when we do silly things like Jump Shake Your Booty. It keeps us closer, and I think it makes the games even more fun for everyone.
