Games for the ages

This year’s super bowl was one for the history books. The New England Patriots faced off against the Atlanta Falcons in the 51st anniversary of the biggest game in American Sports.
The Patriots found themselves in a huge hole early, down 21-3 at halftime, and 28-3 at one point a good way through the third quarter of the game. It looked like it was going to be a blowout, and hope was dwindling down for New England.
A quick touchdown, stop on defense, and field goal by the Patriots had the score at 28-12 (missed extra point on the touchdown kept it from being 28-13). Down by 16 and with the clock against them, the Patriots knew what they needed to do, and knew it wouldn’t be easy.
The defense got another key stop, and the offense, led by quarterback Tom Brady, drove downfield and scored again. The 2 point conversion was also successful. The score stood at 28-20. People who were about ready to turn off their TVs and go to bed were immersed in the action once more.
The defense got yet another stop against the best offense in football. The Patriots got the ball back with more time than anyone should ever give Tom Brady in a super bowl… And he drove downfield and scored. Then came the biggest 2 point-conversion in the history of football, with the Patriots down 28-26 and very little time left. The attempt was good, and the game was tied at 28.
We saw the first super bowl in 51 years head to overtime. The Patriots won the coin toss, and got the ball first. Brady drove his team downfield once again and scored a touchdown on overtime’s first possession, to complete arguably the best comeback in the history of sports, and earn his 5th super bowl ring, the only player with this amount in the long history of the NFL.
“Brady clutched up, but the defense played a huge part getting the ball in his hands with a few key stops. The game is NEVER over until the clock hits zero”, said Nick Versace, 17’.
People everywhere were ecstatic. Patriots’ fans were as happy as they had ever been, while Falcons’ fans had their hearts shattered into pieces. It almost felt like a dream.
“The super bowl was a very great game”, said NaQuan McPherson, 17. “Teams should learn not to play scared when the opposing team is making a run; they get all nervous and start to make their own mistakes. Overall, it was an exciting game. Anyone can win, and any team can come back from anything. Never give up.”
We will most likely never see another super bowl like this years’ again. The hype you felt at the end of the game if you are a football fan was unmatched. We’ll have to see if future games can live up to the expectations set by number 51.
