Life in the pool

Swimming may not receive the spotlight that other sports such as football, soccer, and basketball do, but that doesn’t mean the sport is without its merit. The senior members of the girls swim team have made swimming a large part of their lives in their high school careers and take pride in their performance.

Micaela Weiserth 17’ has been involved with swimming since the summer before her freshman year and it has been a great deal of hard work. She continually tries her best at practice and tries even harder at meets to beat her best time.

“I like how swimming makes my body feel good after practice each day, so I continue to swim to keep myself in shape,” she said. “Everyone that swims is in for the love of the sport.”

Emma Chambers 17’ has been involved with swimming for 4 years. She goes to practice with determination every day and is always working to achieve her personal best time.

“I believe swimming is the hardest sport to be involved in. It involves almost every muscle in your body,” said Chambers. “Every day, no matter how easy or hard that training day is, you come out of the pool feeling dead.”

Kiersten Carper 17′ has been involved with swimming for about ten years and it has always been a part of her. Her training can be grueling at times, but she always pushes herself to do her best.

“Doing well and seeing your hard work pay off makes swimming worth it to me,” said Carper.

Ilyssa Liberto 17′ has been involved in swimming since she was three years old. Dedication requires true love for the sport, meaning everyday that someone wakes up and wants to quit; they push past that feeling and continue to do something they love. Although swimming has been difficult for Liberto at times, she continues to work hard.

“My coaches saw my potential and are always there to push me to do my best. I have made so many friendships through this sport that I am so thankful for,” said Liberto. “I love the thrill of racing and the triumph of winning.”

Swimming is staple in the lives of the girls who take part in the sport. With hard work and dedication, these athletes have achieved their goals and have left behind a tremendous legacy.
