Assassins’ Creed Syndicate

Many video games have created a successful, long-lasting franchise, such as Call of Duty, Halo, and Super Mario Bros. The Assassins’ Creed games are no different. There is an extensive library of these games, in which you play through the memories of another person as a master assassin. These games are also unique for taking place in different points in history, such as the French Revolution (Assassins’ Creed Unity), American Revolution (Assassins’ Creed III), and most recently, the Industrial Revolution in London; this being Assassins Creed Syndicate, arguably reaching a high point in the franchise.

The main mechanics of Assassins’ Creed Syndicate remain the same as all other Assassins’ Creed games, still sneaking around restricted areas and running across rooftops. The best “new” feature is bringing back the ability to whistle and attract enemies, which was removed from Assassins’ Creed Unity last year. This skill is helpful in completing missions in the game.

This game also has much fewer bugs and glitches, and less of a difficulty curve than Assassins’ Creed Unity.  This feature makes the game much less stressful and rage- inducing. The difficulty curve for new players was way too high, and players, including myself, didn’t think the game was worth playing, if all you did was die, over and over.

As with all Assassins’ Creed games, there is just so much to do in this game. There are the main missions, side missions, districts of London to conquer, hidden chests, artifacts relating to older games, and this time around, there are two playable characters, Jacob and Evie Frye. Each character has his/her own individual missions to complete. There is also a feature that allows you to obtain new skills for each character. There is just so much content packed into this game, and it almost seems overwhelming, but very exciting at the same time.

This game is also great because of its story. The plot of the Assassins’ Creed games follows the battle between the assassins, who are fighting for good, and the Templars, who are out to obtain world domination. Assassins’ Creed Syndicate brings a more powerful story than some of its predecessors. In this game, the city of London is under the control of the Templars. They have total control of the booming Industrial Revolution, which involves enslaving children and creating gangs to terrorize the streets. This game seems much more personal.

While games like Assassins’ Creed III and Assassins Creed Black Flag are great games, you seem a bit removed from the plot. Assassins Creed III takes place during the American Revolution, but you play as a warrior from an Indian tribe, and aren’t really directly involved in the main conflict. Assassins’ Creed Black Flag has you play as a pirate who needs money. While in the game you fight against the British and Spanish, that game is much more about helping yourself rather than doing something that’s bigger than yourself. Assassins’ Creed Syndicate makes you want to play because the player knows that child labor is bad, and wants to stop it. The player wants to save a city that’s in need of saving. This type of plot drives the player forward, and wants them to play more.

In conclusion, Assassins’ Creed Syndicate is a fantastic game. The gameplay is engaging, the story makes you want more, and overall, it is a great recovery for the series after the failure of Assassins’ Creed Unity. If you are into action games, or even just a history buff , I highly recommend this game.
