What is the charity you chose to represent?
American Cancer Society. I am honored to be nominated for homecoming, but most importantly, excited at the opportunity to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Most of us have been affected by cancer in some way and all of us know how devastating a diagnosis of any kind can be. For me this cause is very personal. I lost my amazing grandmother before I was even able to meet her. Over the years we have had many friends and family members touched by this disease and in so many different forms. Thanks to the advances in research and medication, people can fight harder and live longer than they ever have before. Back in 2001 when my grandmother was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, she survived only 6 short months. An irreplaceable force, Solina Gonnion, diagnosed with the same type of cancer in 2020 was able to spend 3 years fighting alongside her amazing family, sadly losing her battle in June. During this time, she never missed an event for her children, spent more time checking on her friends and family rather than worrying about herself and lives in our hearts everyday as we continue to fight in her memory. It’s always been my goal to erase the word cancer from existence. Please help me do that, and in the words of Solina, keep “living the dream” as we fight for everyone affected by this disease.
Why do you best represent Washington Township?
I am honestly just happy to be able to raise money for the American Cancer Society, but I believe that I could best represent Washington Township because I am very involved. I also feel that I am very approachable and easy to talk to.
