Who should the Philadelphia Eagles draft?
This article will lay out who the Philadelphia Eagles should draft. This article will not factor in the moves the Eagles make in the offseason before the draft as at this time no moves have been definitely made. I will go from rounds 4-6 of whom the Eagles should draft and why. Here we go!
4th round: Brian Hill, College: Wyoming, 108th overall:
Hill was a standout player for a surprisingly competitive Wyoming football team, totaling 1761 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns for the Cowboys. Hill has ideal size at 6’1, along with great weight at 219 pounds. Hill has a great combination of size and speed scouts salivate for. Problems with Hill have been in pass protection, as he at times fails to pick up blitzes. Also, his ability to catch passes has been questioned as well. Getting Hill in the fourth round would give the Eagles balance in the run game, allowing the Eagles to let Ryan Matthews walk in order to save salary cap. Hill would automatically assume lead back duties if the Eagles go this direction.
Other Targets: Jehu Chesson (WR), Peter Kalambayi (OLB), and Jordan Leggett (TE)
5th round: Damontae Kazee, College: San Diego State, 139th overall:
Kazee had a tremendous year, accumulating 6 interceptions as he transformed into a lockdown corner. Kazee, at 5’11, doesn’t have ideal stature for a corner. Kazee also showed he’s a capable tackler, as he demonstrated fantastic fundamentals throughout the year. Kazee could gain a few pounds, as he is below average weight at 190 pounds. Kazee would ideally line up in the sot, guarding the third receiver. The Eagles need depth at corner, and Kazee fits the bill nicely.
Other Targets: Jake Replogle (DT), Zach Banner (OT), Sojourn Shelton (CB)
6th Round: Nate Theaker, College: Wayne State, 151st overall:
Theaker would give the Eagles offensive guard depth, as Brandon Brooks was very injury prone and Allen Barbre could use more depth behind him. Theaker is a mauler in the run game, as he is very athletic for his size at 6’5. Theaker struggled in pass protection, as he allowed 5 sacks. Many scouts believe the reason for this is that his footwork could be rectified as it’s fundamentally improper. Theaker would be a good depth piece for the Eagles line, as he could end up being a starter in years to come.
Other Targets: Darren Carrington (WR), Marcus Cox (RB), Blake Jarwin (TE)
