Jenna Dean Interview

Kami Joi Hickson, Patriot Staff Writer

Jenna Dean, Washington Township High School senior, was nominated to represent Washington Township High School in its homecoming Court.  Dean describes herself as, “A happy person who’s doing their best to achieve all of their goals.”  Dean views herself as extremely organized, no matter how crazy life gets.  She explained, “I have everything scheduled and written down somewhere.  I try to never give up and just keep doing my best in whatever it is I’m doing at the time.  However, as much as I plan, I always end up procrastinating, little things, even though I know I shouldn’t and then I have to finish up, everything, at the last minute.”

Dean credits her sister as her mentor.  She states, “My sister, Morgan, and I talk about everything and she’s always here to give me advice.”

When asked, “If you had a quote for your life what would it be and why?”  Dean replied with this quote, to quote from Whitman, “O me! O Life! Of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless…of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?”  Answer.  That you are here – that life exists and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.  That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.  What will your verse be?”  Dean stated, “ I love this quote from Dead Poets Society because we’re all here and have one life to live and you might as well make the most of it and that’s exactly what I try to do.”

Dean believes all of mankind would be better off is everyone could find it in their hearts to be just a bit nicer to each other.  “There’s no need to spread hate when we could all simply work together,” stated Dean.  “I know that sounds really cheesy, but the idea is amazing.”  Dean chooses music as the medication of her life.  “I love all types of different music and simply listening or singing along to the right music can truly change your mood in seconds.”

Dean is proud of her involvement with the Washington Township High School Student Council Organization.  She’s thoroughly enjoyed all of the amazing events she’s been a part of while on the Student Council Executive Committee and she had made many friends, as a result of her involvement with Student Council.  As a member of Student Council, Dean was asked to attend the RYLA Leadership event at Stockton College.  Dean was honored to be a part of such a prestigious leadership event.

In the future Dean would like to pursue a career in education, specifically elementary education and her current colleges of choice are, Rowan, TCNJ and Farleigh Dickinson.  Dean is looking forward to attending college and beginning her education field experience and student teaching.

When asked, “If you could travel to the past where would you go and why?” Dean stated, “I’d like to go back in time to when my grandparents and parents were young, just so I could see what they were like and the decisions they made at my age.”  Looking forward Dean will have many exciting and adventurous decisions to make.  Jenna Dean plans to face her future with a happy spirit and attempt to make the best of every moment life has to offer her as she begins each chapter.
