New Year’s Resolutions

Every year we make them and swear that no matter what we will keep it this year. “This year is different” you tell yourself for words of encouragement but by the time January 7th rolls around you are a week into the New Year and you may have exercised, and ate healthy for maybe a day. You started reading again and only got to the first page and now you don’t even know where that book is and where you left off at. This year however, can be different as long as you set goals that you are capable of achieving and give yourself a reasonable amount of time to accomplish them.

Some people going into the New Year set their goals too high. If you never work out at a gym, setting a goal of going to the gym 5 times a week for a solid two hours is definitely setting too high of a goal.

When you set goals like this and have all the confidence that you can do this without an issue and then you realize you’re just not capable of your goal is a letdown. Most people after getting off track now too unconfident or unmotivated to set a new goal or to get back to their old goal. Trying to avoid this is the key to keeping your New Year’s goal, realize your limits and what you can and cannot do. Start out simple and build your way up throughout the year. Never lose sight of your goal, make sure you remember why you set this goal in the first place this will help motivate you even more.

Another problem people face when setting a new year’s resolution is time management. This can apply to any goal whether it’s working out or reading or even eating healthy. Planning to go to the gym three days out of the week for an hour is reasonable. But when you get side tracked and start to do other things it is easy to fall out of the routine of going. Make sure you make time for the gym and the gym only. If you plan on starting to read more, make sure you make time for reading whether it is right after dinner or before you go to bed. This all also applies to eating healthy. Make sure you have the time to make and look up healthy recipes. Make sure you have the time to weigh things out and buy the right foods.

There are many easy mistakes someone can make when they are trying to reach their goals in the New Year. There are many things that demotivate you or sidetrack you in your day to day life. Having a motive is key in reaching a goal, it keeps you focused. Your goals are reachable and by the end of the year you will see results of all your hard work, which is really rewarding.
