Junior outlook/advice

Junior Year. You’ve all heard about it, had nightmares about it. It’s the year colleges look at the most. It’s the first year of IB/AP testing, SATs, ACTs, and more. You have to start thinking about college, scholarships and basically everything that makes you terrified for the future. Fortunately, it’s not the end of the world. Plus who said Junior Year can’t be fun? It’s also the first year of Prom, Powderpuff and being an upperclassman. There’s definite perks in that and the juniors definitely realize that.

Take a page out of Savannah Margiotta ‘17’s book “So far I really like junior year! I’m excited for Prom and Powderpuff and I’m excited to see everyone transform into new people. And this is everyone’s year for college. I think it’s pretty cool for people to make those big decisions.” Get the negative thoughts out of your head. Junior year will not be the worst year. It will not ruin your life, it will not drive you insane. Yes, colleges are interested in your grades, yes, you take your SATs or your ACTs this year. Yes, this is the year that matters. No, now is not the time for you to panic and run around like someone just cut off your head. Clear out your mind of all the negativity that’s generally associated with junior year. Instead, I vote that you fill your head with positivity. Tia Antonelli ‘17 is doing it and not only that, but she’s using it as motivation to try harder. “It’s stressful and it’ll obviously get even more stressful (with a SAT’s and whatnot) but I have really really high hopes! I feel like this is a good year to try harder than I ever have because this year is extremely important.” You can do it! You can get through it. Take it one day at a time and before you know it, you’ll be sitting by the pool dealing with your senioritis. Ben Curwin ‘17 is another to look at junior year with something other than despair; instead he looks at difficult classes and says, “The classes are more intense but also more interesting.” A statement with valid points since more specialized classes are available like Forensics, Autonomy, Sociology, etc.
