The annual AFJROTC Military Ball was held on Tuesday, May 11th at Masso’s Catering in Glassboro. Over 100 students attended this year and members of administration were present to supervise the event. Senior Cadets, Kaylee Luckiewicz, Cayla Wade, and Marlene Wallace with the help of Lieutenant Colonel Lumpkin planned a spectacular event for attendees.
Due to the guidelines and restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Military Ball is one of the few events that was held off-site this year. There were several guidelines put in place in order to keep the students safe. Masks were mandated all night, except when eating. To ensure social distancing guidelines were followed, there was no photo booth at this year’s ball/ Many people instead chose to take their photos by the waterfall outside of Masso’s.
Senior Cadet Shea Watson, who attended her last military ball this year, said, “Even with the restrictions the dance turned out to be one of my favorites I have ever attended!”
The planning for the ball started as early as September. This year’s dance was different than year’s past for many reasons, the biggest one being the location change.
Military Ball coordinator Marlene Wallace was, “Surprised that this new venue was something all the cadets liked, especially since it was outside in a tent, instead of the big ball room we are normally in,” she went on to talk about how the outdoor area was something the future coordinators might do again.
Senior Cadet and Military Ball coordinator Kaylee Luckiewicz said, “It was hard to plan with restrictions, but I think we all worked super hard and I’m proud at how it turned out.”
Coordinator Cayla Wade helped to plan the event as well, and in her words, “It was a really good experience, and I’m glad we were able to make it the perfect night.”
