With 59 goals, Amanda Attanasi ’21 has officially broken the WTHS record for soccer goals. Attanasi has been playing soccer since she was four years old. She hopes to make a career out of the sport that she grew up playing, “whether its playing for the NWSL or playing for the USWNT.” The NWSL and USWNT are two big organizations in the soccer world that Attanasi has dreamed of playing in since she was young.

High school soccer has given the young superstar many memories, starting with the bond she has developed with her teammates, the college recruitments, and being able to break the school’s record. Soccer is a lot of fun, but the friendships and everlasting memories made over the years mean a lot to her. Last year a rough game against Eastern High School left the Minutemaids jumping. Attanasi states, “Beating eastern was one of my favorite games. 1-0, it was very memorable.”

Soccer wasn’t always the focus of this young athlete’s career. Attanasi had an intense love for basketball too. “I love both sports, but soccer just came easy to me and it has made an impact on my life. As I got older, I wanted to focus on one sport, I had more dedication towards soccer.”

Although soccer is a major part of her life, Attanasi also enjoys spending time with her family. She is one of triplet and an older and younger sister to two brothers. Her family is very supportive of her and her recent decision to play Division-I soccer for James Madison University.
